
Americans Fall to Top-Ranked Winterhawks

PORTLAND, OR - The Americans fell 11-2 in Portland today as the Winterhawks passed Everett for first place in the U.S. Division.
Portland jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period with goals from Jaydon Dureau, Clay Hanus, and Seth Jarvis. The Americans responded at the 18:43 mark of the period with a goal from Paycen Bjorklund. Bjorklund tossed a puck on net that slipped through the five-hole of Joel Hofer for his 10th goal of the season.
The Americans were narrowly out shot 12-8 through the first 20 minutes.
The Winterhawks extended their lead to 4-1 just thirty seconds into the second frame with a goal from Jack O'Brien. O'Brien would go on to add back-to-back goals in the third period to record his first WHL hat trick.
Jake Gricius added another goal for the Winterhawks before a reply from the Americans.
Sam Huo scored for Tri-City with a hard shot from the right circle, unassisted.
The Americans were unable to find the net again tonight at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Portland finished the game with six unanswered goals to take an 11-2 victory.
Rookie netminder Mason Dunsford played in net tonight for Tri-City. He stopped 37 of 48 shots faced.
