Peoria Rivermen News Release
Huntsville, AL - The Peoria Rivermen secured the third longest winning streak in SPHL history as they won their tenth straight game, 4-1 over the Havoc in Huntsville Saturday night. The win improves Peoria's league-best points total to 42, eight points ahead of the second place Mississippi RiverKings with three road games coming next weekend.
The first period was played without score before Peoria opened the scoring in the second period. At the 7:05 mark of the first a long shot from Dave Pszenyczny resulted in a rebound that was fired home by Walker Wintoneak to put Peoria on top 1-0. The Rivermen doubled their lead at 17:24 of the second when Adam Stuart came streaking down the left wing and buried a feed past Huntsville goaltender Kevin Genoe to make it 2-0.
Peoria extended their lead at the 5:05 mark of the third period when Ben Power came away with a breakaway and beat Genoe for his first goal in a Rivermen uniform, making it 3-0. The Rivermen made it 4-0 on a Terrence Wallin one-timer from the slot at 18:05 of the third. The Havoc got a goal at 18:36 of the third to get on the board, but it proved to be too little, too late as the Rivermen held on for the 4-1 victory.
Jacobson stopped 24 of 25 shots faced to win his fifth straight game since joining the Rivermen. The rookie missed his first pro shutout by 1:24 as he earned his fifth win to improve to 5-4-0 for his career.
