SHOOTOUT HEROICS
The Rivermen won last night's game in a shootout for their first shootout victory of the season in two chances. Of Peoria's three successful shootout attempts last night, two of them came from Steve Morra, who has tallied six goals and seven assists in nine games since coming out of retirement before Peoria's December 18 game in Columbus.
A (STU) NATION ON FIRE
Last night's Peoria victory included a goal by Rivermen forward Adam Stuart to give him a goal in each of his last five games. Since recording three points January 2 against Huntsville in Peoria, Stuart has five games with eight total points (5g, 3a) and a +5 rating. For the season Stuart has 21 points on 10 goals and 11 assists in 24 games played.
THE WHOLE SHOOTING MATCH
The Rivermen come into tonight's contest leading the league in fewest shots on goal against per game at 27.85 and second in the SPHL at 32.85 shots taken on net per game. Peoria is also tops in the league in goals per game at 3.35 and fewest goals allowed per game at 2.12. In the first period this season the Rivermen are out-shooting opponents 315-229 and out-scoring opposing teams 35-16, each representing the widest margin for any team in any period in the SPHL this season.
WELCOME TO THE SIN BIN
Huntsville entered last night's game as the most penalized team in the SPHL and proceeded to get called for 25 penalty mintues, including a five-minute major and game misconduct for spearing by center Steeve Mele at 16:37of the first period. As a result of his actions, Mele was issued a one-game suspension by the SPHL, forcing the Havoc to skate one man short for tonight's contest.
WHAT'S AHEAD
After tonight's game the Rivermen finish their stretch of road games in Macon January 21 and Columbus January 22 &23. Peoria will return to their home ice for a three-game series with Fayetteville January 29-31. After that the Rivermen will return to the road for a trio of games February 4-6 in Macon and Fayetteville.
