Louisiana IceGators News Release
Southaven, Miss.--For the second time in a month, the Louisiana IceGators and the Mississippi RiverKings played to a shootout.
For the second time in a month, the shootout ended in the Louisiana IceGators' favor.
Geordie Wudrick tied the game with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation before scoring the game-winner in the shootout to give the Louisiana IceGators a 3-2 victory over the RiverKings.
The IceGators and the RiverKings will meet again for a two-game series next weekend at the Landers Center. The first game is set for Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
"This is a solid road win for the team," IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli said. "We were a little flat in the first period, but then we were solid for the last 40 minutes. We had some Grade-A scoring opportunities that we didn't capitalize on, but we'll definitely take the victory.
The line of Wudrick, (Tyler) Barr, and (Zac) Frischmon was excellent. The two newcomers--Frischmon and (Ben) Kramer--stepped right in and did an excellent job. (Goalie Brad) Barone had another great game and kept us alive throughout."
The RiverKings drew first blood with 3:22 remaining in the first period when Charles Mosey scored off assists from Donald Olivieri and Ryan Marcuz.
The IceGators tied the score 4:21 into the second period when Wudrick tacked on his first goal of the night off a feed from Frischmon.
Mississippi regained the lead with 6:28 remaining in regulation off a Linden Bahm short-handed goal. Mike Grace and Leo Thomas assisted on the play.
Twenty-seven seconds later, Wudrick scored on a powerplay off assists from Frischmon and Alex Hudson to knot up the score.
The IceGators dominated the shootout, getting goals from Jake Hauswirth, Wudrick, and Luke Sandler. Only Mosey scored for Mississippi in the tiebreaker.
The IceGators are looking forward to getting back to practice and using this victory to build a win streak and climb higher in the SPHL standings.
"We need to take this win and feed off it," Omicioli said.
