Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Peoria Rivermen return to Carver Arena tonight with just eight games left in the home schedule for the 2007-08 regular season as the Quad City Flames are in town for a Nesquik 2-for-Tuesday.
All upper bowl tickets are buy-one, get-one free with any UPC Proof of Purchase from Nesquik products at the Peoria Civic Center Box Office. Bring as many UPCs as you like and get buy-one, get-one free upper bowl seats!
Tonight is the final appearance of the Quad City Flames during the regular season as the Rivermen wind down a 10-game series with the club. Peoria holds the advantage in the series at 5-3-0-1 and looks to gain two more important points over a division rival that sits just three points behind the Rivermen.
Entering the game, the Rivermen are in fourth place in the West division with 70 points, while the Flames are tied for sixth with 67. Nine points separates six of the division's eight teams, stretching from the second place Rockford IceHogs at 76 points down to the Flames and Houston Aeros at 67.
"It just goes to show the parity in the division and how tight things are," said Rivermen head coach Dave Baseggio. "This is the most competitive division in the AHL and we're right in the thick of it."
Peoria has turned things around with wins in its last two games, driven by center Trent Whitfield and his five game point scoring streak that includes a game-winning goal against Lake Erie Saturday and setting up the game winner against Rockford on Sunday.
Marek Schwarz has also helped, posting a 2-0 mark, 2.00 GAA and .931 save percentage since returning from the ECHL's Alaska Aces after a perfect 6-0 record with the latter.
The Rivermen must be wary of Quad City's offensive weapons like Grant Stevenson, who is second in the league in power play goals and fourth in points, and Krys Kolanos, who is averaging over a point-per-game this season and is among the league leaders in shots on goal.
Check out both teams when they hit the ice at 7 pm tonight at Carver Arena. Tickets are on sale now through the Peoria Civic Center, at all TicketMaster locations, on line at www.TicketMaster.com, or charge by phone at (309) 676-8700. See you at the games!
