Marlies Recall D Patrick Wellar from Columbia

Mike Penny, General Manager of the Toronto Marlies, announced today that the club has recalled defenceman Patrick Wellar from the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL.

Wellar, 24, has skated in 52 games this season with the Inferno and leads all Columbia defencemen with 28 points (eight goals, 20 assists). He has registered 77 penalty minutes and a plus-two rating for the Inferno this season. On March 1 against the South Carolina Stingrays, Wellar registered a season-high three assists and plus-four rating. The Carrot River, Saskatchewan native is tied for 13th in defencemen scoring in the ECHL with 28 points.

The 6'3, 210-pound blue-liner has appeared in four games this season with the Toronto Marlies, recording two penalty minutes and a plus-one rating. Wellar has appeared in 32 career AHL games over three seasons with the Toronto Marlies, Worcester IceCats and Peoria Rivermen from 2004-08.

The Marlies head to Grand Rapids on Wednesday night to take on the Griffins - AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings - with puck

drop at 7:00 p.m. They travel to Syracuse - AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets - to take on the Crunch on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

The Marlies then return to Ricoh Coliseum for a pair of games next weekend. The Marlies host the Manitoba Moose - AHL affiliate of the

Vancouver Canucks - on Saturday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. and the Syracuse Crunch on Sunday, March 9 at 4:00 p.m. For ticket information,
