Peoria Rivermen News Release

The Peoria Rivermen saved the best for last as they scored twice in the third period to smother the Quad City Flames 2-1 at Carver Arena on Tuesday night.

Peoria's suddenly-hot power play got the ball rolling at 8:51 of the third period when Nicholas Drazenovic drove home a rebound off the right pad of Curtis McElhinney (18 saves) after Jim Jackson's seeing-eye wrist shot from the point found its way through the tangle of legs in front of the Flames' net.

With the momentum continuing to build throughout a strong third, the Rivermen appeared to take a 2-1 lead when Mike Glumac directed the puck past McElhinney on a centering feed at 11:35, but after a quick counsel of the officials, the goal was disallowed due to a kicking motion.

Undeterred, the Rivermen rallied and once again managed to get the puck past the Flames netminder, but again the tally was called into question. Micki DuPont's shot was deflected in the air off a stick above the shoulder, but it belonged to Quad City's Tim Ramholt, who was tied up with Nikolay Lemtyugov in front of the crease. The goal was allowed and DuPont's eighth of the year went for the game winner at 17:44.

Marek Schwarz was again solid, winning his third straight decision on 22 saves and posting a 1.67 GAA and .938 save percentage in that span.

The Flames started the scoring in the game as David Van der Gulik picked up his own rebound in the low slot and beat Schwarz along the ice at 7:55 for Quad City's only goal of the game.

Peoria finished the game 1-for-8 with the man advantage while the Flames ended the night scoreless in four attempts.

The season series is now in the books between the two clubs, with Peoria posting a 6-3-0-1 record in ten games. The all-time season series is now 22-5-3 in favor of the Rivermen.

It's right back to the ice for the club tomorrow night as they face off against the IceHogs back in Rockford, where the team is 2-0 this season. The Rivermen trail Rockford by just four points for second place in the AHL's West Division with just 18 games remaining in the regular season. Game time is slated for 7 pm, with the Rivermen Pre-Game Show kicking off with Tom Callahan one half-hour before game time on your Home for Rivermen Hockey, 96.5 ESPN Radio.
