RiverKings 3, at Bossier-Shreveport 1 - December 22nd, 2009
Following a scoreless period, the RiverKings scored twice in the second period on goals from Andrew Lackner and Derek Landmesser for a 2-1 second intermission lead. Nathan Schwartzbauer scored an empty net goal in the final seconds for the final result. Landmesser's goal with about a minute and a half remaining in the second period was the eventual game-winning goal. Kevin Beech won his second straight game in goal with a 19-save effort.

MISSOURI
Mississippi is 2-0-0 against the Mavericks this season. This is the first year for the RiverKings against the Missouri franchise. The last victory for the RiverKings over the Mavericks came on Sunday, December 6th in a 4-2 victory in Southaven. Goaltender Kevin Beech won his first start in goal for Mississippi.
TULSA
Mississippi is 1-3-0 this season against the Oilers. Last year, the RiverKings were 7-0-1 against Tulsa. The last Mississippi victory against the Oilers came on Friday, October 30th, when the RiverKings edged Tulsa 5-4 in Southaven. Goaltender Ray Jean made 27 saves in the victory, as five players had multi-point games in the victory.
MISSISSIPPI LEADERS vs. MISSOURI: Bobby Chaumont and Louis Dumont lead the RiverKings in points against the Mavericks with five each. Chaumont leads with four goals and Dumont has four assists. Dumont is also +4 against Missouri this season. Adam Smyth has 19 penalty minutes in games against the Mavericks. Kevin Cooper has scored two power play goals and Ryan Campbell has a shorthanded goal.
MISSISSIPPI GOALIES vs. MISSOURI: Kevin Beech and Ian Keserich have each played one game against the Mavericks, with each goaltender earning a victory. Beech has a 2.00 GAA and a.900 save percentage against Missouri. Keserich has a 1.00 GAA and a.962 save percentage against the Mavericks.
MAVERICK LEADERS vs. MISSISSIPPI: The Mavericks have scored three goals against the RiverKings in the two previous meetings, coming from Tyler Fleck (since departed), Nick Sirota, and Jeff MacDermid. Assists have come from Jeff Christian, Bill Vandermeer, Bret Tyler, and Mike Burgoyne. Kyle Bochek has the most penalty minutes against Mississippi with 17. Goals from Sirota and MacDermid have come on the power play.
MAVERICK GOALIES vs. MISSISSIPPI: All three Missouri goaltenders have seen some time against the RiverKings this season. Mike Gorman and Alexandre Vincent took losses in their appearances, although Gorman played only 1:35 of the November 21st contest, before being hurt and forced to leave the game. Vincent has a 3.01 GAA and a.906 save percentage against the RiverKings. Doug Groenestege has a 4.11 GAA and a save percentage of.826.
OILER LEADERS vs. MISSISSIPPI: Rob Hisey leads the Oilers in points against the RiverKings with 10 and in goals scored with six. Hisey joins T.J. Caig for the team lead in assists against Mississippi with four each. R.J. Linder has the best plus-minus stat against the RiverKings at +6. Dan Riedel has 12 penalty minutes against Mississippi. Caig has scored two power play goals and Hisey has scored a shorthanded goal.
OILER GOALIES vs. MISSISSIPPI: Kevin Armstrong has a 3-1-0 record against the RiverKings this season, a 3.52 GAA, and a save percentage of.905.
NOTES TO KNOW
Mississippi has been responsible for stopping two of the longer winning streaks in the Central Hockey League this season. The RiverKings stopped the Rapid City Rush's ten-game winning streak on December 18th in 4-3 victory at Southaven, and halted the Mudbugs' six-game winning streak on December 26th in a 3-1 win at Bossier-Shreveport.
Mississippi has won at least seven games from the Tulsa Oilers in the last three previous seasons. The last time the RiverKings did not win the season series from Tulsa was in the 2005-06 campaign, when Memphis was 2-6-0 vs. the Oilers.
At home this season, Mississippi has a record of 8-5-1 for 17 of the team's 30 standings points. Last year, the RiverKings were 24-7-1 at home for 49 of the team's 91 standings points.
On the road this year, the RiverKings are 6-7-1 for 13 of the team's 30 standings points. Last year, Mississippi posted a 20-10-2 road record for 42 points.
Mississippi defenseman Nathan Schwartzbauer had the only multi-point performance of the night Saturday at Bossier-Shreveport with a goal and an assist. Since acquired after his release from Missouri earlier in the year, Schwartzbauer has a goal and four assists for five points this season. Schwartzbauer has no points scored against Missouri this season and has not played for Mississippi against Tulsa. He is currently on a two-game point streak of three points, having earned an assist in the December 22nd win at Corpus Christi.
RiverKings defenseman Derek Landmesser scored the team's eventual game-winning goal with 1:37 remaining in Saturday's win at Bossier-Shreveport. The goal was Landmesser's fifth of the season and 19th point of the year. Against Missouri, Landmesser has two assists and against Tulsa, he has three helpers. Landmesser's 19 points put him tied for ninth in points by a blue-liner in the Central Hockey League entering the week. He enters the week on a two-game point streak of three points, having earned a pair of assists at Corpus Christi on December 22nd.
Mississippi defenseman Andrew Lackner opened the scoring for the RiverKings Saturday night at Bossier-Shreveport with his first goal of the year. The goal was also his first point since an assist December 11th, also against Bossier-Shreveport. For the year, Lackner has one goal and eight assists for nine points. Against Missouri, Andrew has one assist and against Tulsa has no points in two games played.
RiverKings defenseman David Simoes assisted on Derek Landmesser's second period Saturday night at Bossier-Shreveport, which was Simoes' fifth helper of the year. The point was also his first since an assist at Allen on November 25th. Against Missouri, David has no points in two games and has one assist against Tulsa in four previous meetings. Simoes is tied for fourth in the CHL for penalty minutes by a defenseman with 76 and is second for major penalties by a blue liner with ten. He took five minors in a game November 3rd at home against Texas, a league high for the season.
Mississippi forward Matt Summers helped on Andrew Lackner's second period goal at Bossier-Shreveport on Saturday night for his eighth assist of the season and his 100th career CHL point. Summers also has three goals for a total of eleven points overall this year. Matt is on a five-game point streak during which he's scored one goal and has four assists for five points. The goal came at Rio Grande Valley on December 20th. Summers has two assists against the Mavericks this season and has one helper in three games against Tulsa.
RiverKings defenseman Steve Makway earned an assist against Bossier-Shreveport Saturday evening, his team-leading 20th of the year. Makway also has four goals for 24 points. Makway is on a team-leading six-game point streak of nine points, during which time he has scored two goals and has seven assists. Against Missouri this year, Makway has one assist and against the Oilers, Steve has four assists in four appearances. Makway is third in the CHL for points by a defenseman with 24 and leads the league's blue-liners with 20 assists. 12 of those assists have come on power play goals and two came on shorthanded tallies. His current point streak is the third-longest active one in the CHL entering the week.
Mississippi forward Ryan Campbell collected an assist in Saturday's win at Bossier-Shreveport, his 15th of the season to go with nine goals for 24 points. Ryan is now on a three-game point streak of four points, including one goal and three helpers. Against Missouri, Campbell has scored one goal and has two assists, while against Tulsa, he has one red-lighter and three assists. The goal became a game-winner in the December 22nd win at Corpus Christi, his first of the year.
RiverKings defenseman Travis Wight has left the roster and will be continuing his playing career in Europe. Wight has been on the injured reserve list since breaking his jaw on November 21st. In 17 games with the RiverKings, Wight had two assists.
Mississippi will be looking for its third straight win in Tuesday's game at home against Missouri. That would be the team's first three game winning streak of the season. The RiverKings have fashioned two-game winning streaks on four separate occasions this season, including the current streak.
The RiverKings won for the fifth time this season Saturday night when scoring three or fewer goals in a game. Mississippi's record is 5-10-2 when scoring three or less.
Mississippi is now 13-3-1 when allowing three or fewer goals to the opponents.
In Tuesday night action, the RiverKings have a record of 2-1-0. Mississippi's last Tuesday night win came on November 3rd in a 2-1 shootout victory over Texas in Southaven.
Mississippi has played only one game on a Thursday night this season and lost. That came November 19th at Bossier-Shreveport in a 3-1 loss to the Mudbugs.
This weekend's schedule of three games in three nights will mark the fourth time that has happened for the RiverKings this season. Mississippi is 1-2-0 in game three of the previous trio of scheduling trifectas.
When scoring first, Mississippi has a record of 10-4-2.
The RiverKings are 2-0 in shootouts, but 0-2 in games decided in overtime.
Saturday marked the latest time the RiverKings have held an opponent to four shots on goal in one twenty-minute time frame, the fewest one-period total for Mississippi opponents this season. The RiverKings lead the CHL in average shots allowed per game at 29.32 beginning the week's play.
