GAME RECAPS

TUESDAY, DEC. 22 @ ODE (L 5-1): After the home-and-home series against the Jackalopes, the Americans made their final trip of the regular season to Odessa last Tuesday. After going down 1-0 in the first period, Allen rebounded with a goal from Nino Musitelli in the second, and things looked like they were turning around for the expansion club. Then, Allen gave up a shorthanded goal with just over three minutes remaining in the middle frame. The goal was the first in a three-goal flurry for the Jackalopes. The Americans found themselves down 4-1 after two periods and couldn't find the back of the net again. Allen finished the season series against Odessa 1-2-1.

SATURDAY, DEC. 26 vs. TEX (W 3-2 OT): The day after Christmas the Americans took on their cross-town rival, the Texas Brahmas. Goaltender Charlie Effinger started in net for the first time since a hit from Brahmas forward James Hiebert put him on goaltender IR Nov. 28. He made 20 saves and earned a victory. The matchup was part of the North Texas Vintage Game Series, which commemorates the old time Metroplex rivalries. The Americans donned Dallas Black Hawks jerseys, and the Brahmas wore Fort Worth Wings sweaters. After taking an early lead on a goal from Justin Bowers 34 seconds into the game, the Brahmas scored back-to-back power play goals in the second period to take a 2-1 lead. Newcomer Sean Perkins tied the score midway through the third, and blue liner Ryan Fairbarn clinched the game at 4:11 of overtime to earn his third game-winning goal of the season. Bruce Graham had assists on all three Americans goals.

SUNDAY, DEC. 27 vs. BOS (W 4-3 SO): Allen hosted the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs for the first time at the Allen Event Center Sunday. The Americans took an early lead for the second time last weekend when Justin Bowers popped the puck into a wide-open net, but Bossier-Shreveport tied the score before the period ended. Allen found themselves down 3-1 after Christian Gaudet received a five-minute major for checking from behind, and the 'Bugs were able to score twice on the power play. Captain Jarret Lukin and Jordie Benn notched goals in the third to tie the score 3-3 to send the game into overtime. Then, Bowers and Colton Yellow Horn scored in the shootout to clinch the win for the Americans.
