Missouri's Jeff Christian and Odessa's Joel Martin Win Weekly Awards

(Tempe, Arizona) - The Central Hockey League announced today that the recipients for the Oakley Central Hockey League Player and Goaltender of the Week for the period ending December 27, 2009 are forward Jeff Christian of the Missouri Mavericks and for the second straight week, goaltender Joel Martin of the Odessa Jackalopes.

Christian was key in the Mavericks two wins last week finishing the week with three goals and an assist. In Tuesday's 6-5 shootout win versus Laredo, the Burlington, Ontario native had a goal and an assist. He followed that up with two goals in the Mavericks 6-2 road win in Wichita. On the season, the veteran forward leads the expansion Mavs with 34 points (13-21=34) and is currently on a three-game goal streak with four goals over that stretch. The 2007 CHL Most Valuable Player has recorded at least a point in 19 of the team's last 23 games.

Martin continues his unbelievable run becoming the first player since Marco Emond (Arizona), who won the weekly award on December 29 and January 5 last season, to be named the league's top goaltender in back-to-back weeks. During the week, the Fort Worth, Texas native stopped 77 of 81 shots for a.951 save percentage. His two wins gives him 13 on the season, tied for second in the league and his league-leading goals against average fell to 2.10. He began the week with a 44 save effort in the Jacks 5-1 win over Allen on December 22 and then closed things out with a 33 save performance in his team's 4-3 win over Arizona on December 27. Martin has not lost a game in regulation since October 17 at Amarillo and is 13-1-2 on the season.

In recognition of their achievements both Christian and Martin will receive a special gift from Oakley.
