Mississippi RiverKings News Release
Southaven, MS --- Tuesday the RiverKings posted an impressive win over the Wichita Thunder, while helping to support the troops teaming up with two specific organizations, Support Our Troops and Project Package.
Project Package is a Southaven based group that sends packages to troops overseas each month. This will be the third RiverKings game Project Package has attended to collect items for their mailings.
"We are pleased to have another opportunity set up a table at the RiverKings game," Rickey Pope, organizer of Project Package said. "With the storms coming through earlier this month, we lost several donated items before we could send them out. We need to replenish our stock. Thank you to the RiverKings and their fans for helping us do so."
Some of the items needed to fill these packages include unscented baby wipes, batteries, beef jerky, Chap Stick, chips, cereal bars, cookies, deodorant, flip flops, foot powder, fruit cups, hand sanitizer, lotion, tooth paste, tooth brushes with case, and Vienna sausages.
The RiverKings will continue to collect items from fans for Project Package all season long. Fans who wish to bring donations by can drop items off at the RiverKings With A Cause table on the concourse, behind section 117, during all home RiverKings games.
The RiverKings are also teaming up with Support Our Troops for the next three home games. Support Our Troops is a permanent national organization founded by Civilians as a statement of thanks to our troops. Support Our Troops is non-partisan, non-political organization welcoming civilians, active-duty families and veterans.
Support Our Troops' flagship program is the official-state issued Support Our Troops! motor vehicle license plate, which is now available in Mississippi. These plates will in turn produce recurring funds for Support Our Troops to use for the benefit of troops and their families.
The RiverKings will feature a table at three more games this month hoping to sign individuals up for the Support Our Troops! license plate. Two hundred motor vehicles need to register for this plate in order for production to begin.
