Rayz Pack The House In 6-3 Loss To Laredo

The Corpus Christi Rayz welcomed 6,568 fans to the American Bank Center on Friday Night for their 4th Annual Pack the House For Charity Night, and helped raise several thousands of dollars for South Texas Charities. However, the Laredo Bucks third period attack took center stage in the game, exploding for five goals in a 6-3 comeback victory. The loss dropped the Rayz record to 17-27-6, and left them three points back from the Amarillo Gorillas and Austin Ice Bats for the final playoff spot in the Southern Conference. Then Rayz will conclude their three-game weekend with a Saturday Night visit to take on Austin at 7:38pm. The Gorillas will be in Odessa on Saturday and home against Youngstown on Sunday. The Rayz return to the American Bank Center next Friday Night to host the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at 7:05pm. Tickets are on sale now. The Mudbugs were able to cash in on two of their four PP chances in the close game's final five and a half minutes. The Rayz remained two points behind the Amarillo Gorillas for the final playoff spot in the South. The Rayz loss dropped them to 17-26-6 on the year. The Rayz return to the American Bank Center on Friday Night at 8:05pm for Pack the House For Charity Night vs. the Laredo Bucks. Tickets are available, but going fast. James Hiebert scored the lone goal of the first period on a shot from the slot at 11:55 on the power play. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 13-9 in the opening frame.

In the second period, the Rayz turned things around, turning to special teams. Justin Quenneville got the rally started with a redirection goal on a power play at 5:30 to tie the score 1-1. The Rayz took their first lead at 2-1 when Joe Blaznek ripped a wrist shot upstairs on Dustin Traylen from the right circle on a power play at 11:02. The Rayz capped the second period scoring at 17:53 when Adam Powell's outlet pass from the Rayz zone split the Bucks defense and sprung Blaznek on a breakaway where he deked Traylen and scored his second goal in less than six minutes. The Rayz outshot the Bucks 9-6 in the period and took a 3-1 lead into the final frame.

In the third period, the Bucks erupted for five goals to take control of the contest. Two goals Alex Goupil helped fuel the Laredo onslaught as four players tallied in the frame to give the Bucks the win. Matt Summers, Derek Legault and Hiebert on a empty net goal, rounded out the scoring. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 15-6 in the final period and with the win clinched their fifth straight division title.

Jason Tapp made 28 saves on 33 shots and took the loss, dropping to 17-22-5. Traylen got the win with 21 saves on 24 shots. His record jumped to 19-7-2. Corpus Christi went 2-3 on the power play and Laredo was 2-4 on the man advantage. The Rayz outshot the Rayz 34-24.
