Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - Until tonight, the Oklahoma City Blazers had won every game against the Rocky Mountain Rage this season. The Rage had also never defeated the Blazers at the Broomfield Event Center. But tonight the Rage answered back shutting out Oklahoma City 4-0 fueled by the efforts of goaltender Scott Reid. Four different Rage players scored.
The Rage advanced to 31-13-5 (67 points) overall this season and remains just two points ahead of the Colorado Eagles in the race for the Northwest Division title. The Blazers fell to 22-23-6 (50 points) for third place in the Northwest Division.
On just the third shot on goal in the game, Rage blueliner Tyler Butler sent a long wrist shot bouncing across the ice and in net at 2:05. Rage captain Brent Cullaton and Daymen Rycroft assisted on the 4-on-3 play. The Rage held the Blazers to only one shot on goal until 3:41 remaining in the period. The Rage finished the first period outshooting the Blazers by a 12-4 margin.
The Rage struck again at 2:36 of the second period when left winger Colt King centered the puck for a quick shot in net by David Morelli.
In the third period, Rage newcomer Ladislav Kouba fired a shot from the right wing, which hit the left post on a deflection by Blazers goaltender Sean Connors. Rage forward Simon Watson was there and chipped it in net at 1:42. Cullaton added his second helper of the night and his 60th of the season leading the Central Hockey League.
Rycroft added an empty net goal at 19:44 from Cullaton and Butler to cap off scoring in the game.
