Mississippi RiverKings News Release

Ryan Held scored with 14:40 remaining in regulation to lift the Mississippi RiverKings over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 3-2 tonight at the DeSoto Civic Center.

Combined with the Youngstown SteelHounds' 2-0 loss to the Texas Brahmas tonight, the RiverKings have moved into fourth place in the Northern Conference. The SteelHounds remain in fifth place, but the Brahmas now trail both teams by one point for a playoff spot.

Held deflected a Cody Blanshan shot from the left point past Ken Carroll for his 22nd of the season to send the fans home happy.

For the second straight game, the Mudbugs scored late in the first period. Matt York scored his third goal of the season with 5.1 seconds remaining on a power play to give Bossier-Shreveport a 1-0 lead. However, the RiverKings came back with a power play goal of their own 3:57 into the second period. Aaron Davis fired a shot from the right half-wall past Carroll for his 16th goal of the year.

The RiverKings grabbed their first lead of the night with 8:22 remaining in the second, as Derek Landmesser fired a wrist shot through Carrol from the right point. Nevertheless, Kevin Cooper tied the game with his seventh goal of the season with 2:44 to go in the period.

Ian Keserich made 26 saves for the RiverKings. Carroll made 26 saves for the Mudbugs.

The RiverKings host the Tulsa Oilers on Friday at 7:05 p.m. The pre-game show starts at 6:55 p.m. on Sports 56 WHBQ.
