February 26, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Central Hockey League today announced that Mudbugs goaltender John DeCaro breaking the All-time CHL record for shutouts in a season has been voted by the fans as the CHL's Performance of the Week. DeCaro's accomplishment collected nearly 53 percent of the fan vote (6,676 out of 12,660 total votes) for the week of February 11th to win the award.

DeCaro's 20-save, 3-0 shutout of Austin on Saturday, February 16th was his ninth of the year, setting a new mark in league history. Four goaltenders had reached eight shutouts in one season before, but none had ever surpassed that total. Since then, the second-year pro from Marysville, Washington has actually extended the record to ten shutouts this year after blanking Mississippi with 31 saves on Saturday night.

DeCaro is currently having one of the best seasons a CHL goaltender has ever enjoyed. The 6-3, 208 lb. netminder leads the league in goals-against average (1.66), saves percentage (.942), shutouts (10-a CHL record) and is tied (with Rocky Mountain's Scott Reid) for the league lead in wins (22). His season record stands at 22-5-3 in 32 appearances.

DeCaro and his Mudbugs teammates are in Southaven, Mississippi tonight for their tenth meeting this year with the RiverKings. Bossier-Shreveport took a 5-4 advantage in the season series with Saturday night's win at CenturyTel Center . The puck will drop tonight at 7:05 pm at the DeSoto Civic Center . Pregame coverage is set to begin at 6:45 pm on 1130 AM KWKH, and the game will also be shown live online on the CHL Network.
