(Southaven, MS) -- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League inched closer to a Northeast Division championship after a 3-2 shootout victory over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. Mississippi got within two points of clinching the division title and could win it if Oklahoma City lost in regulation time at Rapid City late Saturday night.

Jeff Alcombrack helped the RiverKings take a 1-0 lead after the first twenty minutes of play, scoring an unassisted drive from the right wing that got past Mudbug goaltender Ken Carroll for Alcombrack's 12th tally of the season at 10:10 of the frame.

In the second period, Martin Gascon made the score 2-0, taking a feed from Louis Dumont and scoring his 13th goal of the year from the slot at 1:53 of the frame. David Simoes also received an assist on the goal, as the RiverKings carried a 2-0 lead into the third period of play.

Bossier-Shreveport made their comeback in the third period with goals from David Pszenyczny and the tying goal from J.J. Martin that came with eight minutes left in the third period.

After a scoreless overtime period, Dumont and Derek Landmesser dented the back of the net for a 2-0 shootout decision and the final 3-2 victory.

Goaltender Kevin Beech (35-10-3) won his 11th game in the crease with a 24-save effort for the RiverKings, while Caroll fell to 19-7-3 with a 26-save performance. Neither team scored on the power play, as the RiverKings were 0-for-5 and Bossier-Shreveport finished 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

The RiverKings next play the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at home March 17th at 7:05 PM each night in the DeSoto Civic Center. Ticket information is available from the RiverKings front offices by phoning 662-342-1755.
