March 14, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz.]-Kyle Hood scored the game winning goal with 2:14 remaining to give the Sundogs a 5-3 victory over New Mexico. The Scorpions fell six points behind the final playoff spot.
Tyler Liebel put the Sundogs on the board with a power play goal at the 4:29 mark of the first period. The Scorpions answered quickly off a turnover inside the offensive zone. Craig Macdonald ended up alone in front of the net and converted for the 33rd time this season at the 5:07 mark.
Arizona went to their third power play in the opening period and converted as Adam Perry scored his 22nd goal of the season. Once again the Scorpions answered again as Seth Leonard's wraparound goal found the net 21 seconds later.
Arizona goaltender Marco Emond was shaken up in the first period and did not answer the bell in the middle frame. The Scorpions greeted the newly inserted goaltender Joel Gistedt rather rudely. Seth Leonard led a two-on one into the zone and delivered a perfect pass to Macdonald. The net was wide open for Macdonald who picked up his second tally of the night.
Just like the Sundogs' leads, the Scorps lead was erased fast. Two minutes later Dwayne Hay found Peter Cartwright in front of the net with a tape-to-tape pass. Cartwright beat goalie Kyle McNulty, tying the game at three.
