RiverKings Claim Shootout Victory Over IceMen

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings defeated the Evansville IceMen 4-3 in a shootout Tuesday, February 15th at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. Matt Summers scored the game-winning goal in the shootout to key the team's second straight victory and sixth against the IceMen. Mississippi finishes the season series with Evansville with a 6-2-0 record, including six straight victories.

Evansville dominated play in the first period, outshooting the RiverKings 13-6 and getting the only goal of the period from Jamie Lovell, who scored his sixth goal of the year at 7:15.

But, Mississippi rallied back in the second period with Louis Dumont scoring a shorthanded goal at 6:43 to tie the game at 1-1. Dumont scored his league-leading fifth shorthanded goal of the season and 14th marker of the season overall. Mississippi then took a 2-1 advantage later in the second period with Rusty Masters' first goal as a RiverKing since coming to the team last Sunday, netting the red-lighter unassisted at 17:34.

Mississippi had a 3-1 lead in the third period, when Summers scored at 11:40, but Evansville then rallied to tie the game late in the final period. Lovell scored his second of the night and seventh of the season at 15:27 to cut the RiverKings' margin to 3-2, then Mario Larocque tied the game with 1:45 remaining on his 11th of the year for a 3-3 tie.

There was no scoring in overtime, then the RiverKings won the shootout in four rounds of the scheduled five round session. Chris Richards, Summers and Masters scored for the RiverKings, while Mississippi goaltender Alexander Perchurskiy (12-9-1) stopped all but one attempt, a goal from Niklas Lindberg in the second round.

Mississippi out shot the IceMen for the game by a 39-38 margin, with Pechurskiy and Evansville goaltender Matt Lundin (12-14-5) each making 35 saves. Evansville scored once in only two power play chances, while the RiverKings were 0-for-6 on the power play.

With the win, Mississippi moved into a tie for third place in the CHL Berry Conference standings with its second straight victory and a 24-22-4 record for 52 points. Evansville remains ninth in the CHL Turner Conference ledge with a record of 16-24-7 for 39 points and are winless in its last two games at 0-1-1.

Next up, the RiverKings travel to play at Wichita this Friday night and at Colorado Saturday evening. Mississippi hosts Tulsa for a pair of games the following weekend, February 25th and 26th.
