Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Shawn Limpright tied a franchise record with four assists to go with one goal as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs defeated the Evansville IceMen 6-4 in a crazy affair Wednesday night at the CenturyTel Center. The victory finishes a two-game sweep of the season series for Bossier-Shreveport, who improves to 26-20-2 for the year.
Limpright scored the first Mudbugs goal in the game and then assisted on four of the final five as the ¬ËBugs overcame two early Evansville leads to earn the win. Jim Jorgensen scored two goals and Jamie Milam assisted on three, while Jeff Kyrzakos tacked on a pair of helpers as well. The ¬ËBugs finished with a 40-21 shot advantage but scored on just one of their 13 powerplay chances as the IceMen were whistled for 74 minutes in penalties including four game misconducts.
Evansville scored first when Nicklas Lindberg fed a beautiful back-door pass across the ice to Mario Larocque, who tapped it in for a 1-0 IceMen lead. The Mudbugs countered when Shawn Limpright received a pass from Jeff Kyrzakos and beat Jeff Harvey over his glove to tie the game at one. The IceMen went back on top thanks to a powerplay tip-in by Matt Pierce, but the ¬ËBugs would answer again when Kyrzakos set up Jim Jorgensen ¬â¢s tally to knot the score at two after 20 minutes.
Bossier-Shreveport took its first lead early in the middle period when Jeff Martens ¬â¢ centering pass deflected into the net off a stick in front of Harvey. Anton Kharin scored less than four minutes later however to make it 3-3 for Evansville. After back-to-back unsportsmanlike conduct calls against the IceMen, Brett Smith scored during the ensuing 5-on-3 powerplay late in the period to give the Mudbugs a 4-3 edge going into the third.
Just nine seconds into the final frame, Limpright ¬â¢s faceoff win and a Simon Mangos pass sprung Jorgensen behind the Evansville defense where he buried his second goal of the night to put the ¬ËBugs up 5-3. Then at 2:22, Eric Boisvert ¬â¢s long shot from center bounced off John DeCaro ¬â¢s shoulder and slid into the net to get the IceMen back within one. Only 21 seconds after that however, Limpright set up another goal by Mangos from the high slot to give the Mudbugs a 6-4 lead that they would make stick to finish out the win.
John DeCaro (14-9-1) finished with 17 saves in the game, while former Mudbug Jeff Harvey (8-7-1) stopped 34 shots in the loss. Bossier-Shreveport scored once on a season-high 13 powerplay chances and Evansville converted 1 of 3.
The Mudbugs will next gear up for their eighth battle of the year against the first-place Allen Americans Friday at 7:05 pm. The ¬ËBugs will be looking for their first home win against Allen on Friday ¬â¢s "NASCAR Night" presented by Nelson Energy.
