Crestwood, IL - The Windy City ThunderBolts were defeated by the Rockford RiverHawks on Sunday evening by a score of 11-9.

The ThunderBolts struck for three runs in the bottom half of the first frame off RiverHawks' starter Kevin Crowley. Shortstop Clemente Bonilla led the game off with a single and moved to third on a single by All-Star right fielder Nick Johnson. Johnson swiped second and moved to third on a single by Nick Klusaw. The single by Klusaw plated Bonilla. Justin Schuda knocked an RBI single to right which pushed Johnson across the plate. A fielder's choice by Matt Ferrara and a throwing error by Rockford scored Klusaw to give the ThunderBolts a 3-0 advantage.

Rockford got one back in the third. A trio of walks with a double sandwiched in the middle led to two runs in the fourth for the RiverHawks.

Newcomer Nate Whitney put the ThunderBolts back on top in the bottom of the fourth. His RBI double plated catcher Jason Alcott, who had previously been hit by a pitch. Two more runs were added by the ThunderBolts in the bottom of the sixth on a home run to center by Johnson to put the home team up 6-3.

From there, the game fell apart for Windy City. Olmo Rosario legged out an RBI triple in the seventh and Jeremy Busch dropped a two-run single to highlight the eighth to give the RiverHawks an 8-6 lead.

A solo blast to center field by Aaron McEachran scored one for Rockford in the ninth. With the bases loaded and no one out, a fielder's choice by Todd Dulaney scored Ashley Farr from third to make it an 11-6 game.

The ThunderBolts scraped up three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but it proved to be too little too late as they fell 11-9.

Taking the loss for the ThunderBolts was reliever Matt Hines. Hines went one and one-third innings, surrendering four runs on six hits. Earning the win for Rockford was reliever Adam Kroft who was the pitcher of record when the ThunderBolts relinquished their lead.

The ThunderBolts take to the road for six games. First up will be the Mid-Missouri Mavericks on Monday. A three game series at Rockford will follow, beginning Thursday. The ThunderBolts will return home on Sunday to begin a three game set against the Gateway Grizzlies.
