
Grizzlies take series from Mavericks

For the second time in as many games, the Gateway Grizzlies used a nine-run inning to power past the Mid-Missouri Mavericks. Sunday afternoon the Grizzlies scored nine in the seventh inning en route to a 14-5 victory. The Grizzlies takes the series with the win, and have won two straight. The series win is the first at home for the Grizzlies this season.
The Grizzlies improve to 21-27 on the year. The Mavericks drop to 16-31.
Matt Powell (2-2) earned the win in relief. Powell went three innings, allowing two runs, one earned on three hits. He struck out five. He Followed Scott Patterson who pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief. Patterson did not allow a run on three hits. He struck out five. Brandon Smith started but was removed after just 1 1/3 innings because of control problems. He allowed two runs on two hits and three walks.
Eric Sansouci led the way with four RBIs on the night. He was 1-3 with a two-run triple. Freddy Lopez was 4-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Phil Warren was 3-4 with an RBI. Ben Margalski was 1-4 with a pair of RBIs. Mike Breyman was 3-5. Bo Jenkins, Brandon Averill and Ryan Sullivan each contributed RBIs.
The Grizzlies head on the road for a three-game series with the Kalamazoo Kings Monday-Wednesday. Game time all three nights is 5:35 central time.
