Rockford RiverHawks News Release
CRESTWOOD, Ill. - The RiverHawks proved why they're called "insurance" runs Sunday in Windy City. Rockford scored eight runs in the final three innings and held off a ninth-inning rally to defeat the ThunderBolts, 11-9, and take the series.
Todd Dulaney tied the game at 6-6 with an RBI double in the eighth, the first of consecutive three-run frames for the âHawks. The next batter, Jeremy Busch, singled home two runs to give Rockford the lead for good.
The RiverHawks scored three more runs in the top of the ninth that proved to be significant. Aaron McEachran led off the frame with a solo home run, his second in as many nights and his ninth of the season. Later in the inning, Ryan Larson hit an RBI single and Todd Dulaney drove in a run with a fielder's choice to make it 11-6.
Jason Glosser gave up three runs in the bottom of the ninth but got Nick Klusaw, representing the tying run, to fly out to end the game.
Rockford starter Kevin Crowley went 5 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits for a no-decision. The third of five âHawks' pitchers used on the night, Adam Kroft (3-2), picked up the win, throwing a scoreless seventh inning while striking out two.
The RiverHawks trailed by three runs on two different occasions and didn't have a lead in the game until Busch's hit in the eighth.
Windy City finished with 18 hits but stranded 13 men on base. The âBolts also committed four errors that led to three unearned runs.
Manager Mike Young and Gooby Gerlits, who wasn't in the lineup, were ejected before the fifth inning began. It was the second time this season Young has been thrown out of a game.
The RiverHawks travel to River City for a three-game series beginning at 7:05 p.m. Monday. The 'Hawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
