November 9, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Quad City Riverhawks News Release
Davenport - The Quad City Riverhawks ABA Professional Basketball team dropped a tough home opener on Thursday night losing 75-70 to the Minnesota Ripknees. The Riverhawks kept an opening day crowd of 311 into the game until 4 minutes remaining when the Ripknees pressure defense flustered the Riverhawks.
In the first half 6'9" center Bobby Bienaimee led the team with 9 pts. Danny Osby had two highlight dunks that the got the crowd up on their feet and put the Riverhawks in the lead briefly. Numerous second half turnovers made the Riverhawks job much harder as they tried to climb back from single digit deficits during the second half.
Osby led the Riverhawks with 18 pts and University of Iowa product Glen Worley chipped in 10 points. The Minnesota Ripknees were led by 6'6" forward Jamel Staten who led all scorers with a game high 25 pts.
The next game for the Riverhawks is Monday, November 13 vs. the Anderson Champions at Marycrest Activity Center starting at 7:05 pm. Tickets are available by logging onto www.etix.com, visiting the Riverhawks office at the NW Bank Tower in Bettendorf or are available at Marycrest prior to the game.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
