Arkansas Aeros News Release
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - The Arkansas Aeros moved to 3-0 on the young season with a convincing 123-100 season over the St. Louis Stunners in American Basketball Association (ABA) action Thursday night at the All-Star Sports Arena in Springdale.
The Aeros used a 31-15 second quarter on their way to a 64-42 halftime advantage before cruising the remainder of the way.
"We posted Todd (Day) there in the second quarter and got some easy baskets," said Aeros head coach Bob Hoffman. "Overall, I'm happy about what we did tonight. We adjusted on the fly and the guys responded."
Curtis Haywood of the Aeros led all scorers with 38 points. He shot 7 of 14 from behind the 3-point arc, while the remainder of the team managed just a 7 of 30 effort from behind the stripe.
"We didn't shoot it as well as we've been shooting it," Hoffman said. "We hit some big shots when we had to, though."
Jarred Merrill (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Kellen Easley (10 points and 10 rebounds) posted double-doubles for the Aeros who now face their sister team, the Arkansas RiverCatz, at 7:05 p.m. Sunday at the Sports Arena.
"We know they're (RiverCatz) are talented," Hoffman said. "Kareem Reid will get the ball down the court for them, so we have to be ready to defend him. Dwight Stewart hurt us in the exhibition game we played against them down there (Pine Bluff). We know we'll have our hands full."
St. Louis (0-1) was led by Darius Davis who posted 23 points in the losing effort.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
