CHARLESTON, SC - Former University of Oklahoma college teammates Garrett Patterson and Daniel McCutchen combined for a win and a save to lead the Charleston RiverDogs to a 5-4 victory over the Lexington Legends in South Atlantic League action Monday night in front of 3,913 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

With the victory, the RiverDogs record their fourth series sweep of the year and third at home. Charleston, which completes a 6-2 home stand, finishes the month of July with a 15-14 record. The RiverDogs are now 39-18 at home this season.

On the season, the RiverDogs up their record to 57-51 and balance their second-half record at 19-19, while the Legends fall to 57-50 overall and 13-25 in the second half.

Patterson (1-3), a 2005 seventh-round draft selection by the Yankees out Oklahoma, allowed only one run in five innings to pick up his first South Atlantic League win. McCutchen, a 13th-round pick by New York this year, pitched the final three innings without allowing a hit or a run to earn his first save.

Charleston scored three runs in their first opportunity at bat when Joe Muich walked with the bases loaded and then Eduardo Nunez followed with an RBI single. The third run came when Legends pitcher Sean Walker (5-7) attempted to pick Muich off of second base, but threw wildly sending Marcos Vechionacci with the inning's third run.

The RiverDogs plated two more runs in the third when Corona led off the inning with a triple and scored when Walker was called for a balk. The fifth run came on James Cooper's RBI single that plated Muich, who had earlier drawn a base on balls.

Lexington put one run on the scoreboard in the fifth inning on a Koby Clemens RBI single up the middle.

The Legends then scored three runs in the sixth when RiverDogs pitcher Cory Stuart walked in two runs with the bases loaded, handing J.R. Towles and Tommy Manzella easy RBIs. Eli Iorg drove home another run with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The RiverDogs issued nine walks on the night with starter Patterson responsible for four as was Stuart. McCutchen walked one and fanned another in retiring nine of the ten batters he faced.

Walker pitched 4.1 innings, allowed all five runs on six hits, walked four and fanned three. Reliever Sergio Perez, pitched 2.1 frames and struck out four.

Lexington manager Jack Lind inserted local favorite Ryan Owens, a native of nearby Summerville who played college baseball for The Citadel in the same park, in the bottom of the seventh inning with two men out and runners on first and second. Owens forced Nunez to ground out to shortstop on only two pitches which brought a roar from the stands.

On the evening, Owens pitched 1.1 innings and scattered two hits as he faced five batters.

Nunez collected two hits for the RiverDogs while the Legends were led offensively by Iorg, who also recorded two of the team's six hits.

The RiverDogs will enjoy a rare day off Tuesday and will begin an eight-game road trip that takes them to Hickory and Greensboro. Wednesday night's game will have lefty Zach Kroenke (5-6, 3.61 ERA) going to the hill while Hickory is expected to counter with righty Todd Redmond (8-5, 2.96 ERA).
