Greenville Drive News Release
Lakewood, NJ - The Greenville Drive managed just three baserunners - two hits and a walk - and were swept for the first time this season after being shutout by the Lakewood BlueClaws 3-0 Monday night at FirstEnergy Park. BlueClaws starter Josh Outman pitched masterfully, tossing 7.0 shutout innings allowing one hit and a walk while striking out nine en route to picking up his ninth win of the season.
With the loss, the Drive fell to 22-16 and ran their losing streak to a season-high five games. Greenville closed out the month of July one game above .500 with a 15-14 record.
Drive starter Ryan Phillips and Outman were both pitched impressive, taking their respective shutouts into the sixth inning. Unfortunately for the Drive, the BlueClaws broke the scoreless tie with three runs on just one hit in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Julian Williams led off with a walk and scored as Matt Thayer tripled to center. Mike Spidale then reached on a fielding error by Dustin Kelly, ending the evening for Phillips as he was relieved by Hunter Jones.
A fielder's choice by John Urick allowed Thayer to score. After the BlueClaws executed a double steal, Spidale scored on Clay Harris' sacrifice fly.
The Drive finally got their first hit in the top of the seventh when Mark Wagner hit a two-out single to left. An inning later, Greenville got its final hit as Chris Turner led off the inning with a single up the middle.
Andrew Barb pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning allowing a hit to pick up his team-leading 15th save of the season.
The Greenville Drive return home on Wednesday, August 2nd when they begin an eight-game home stand, starting with the Lake County Captains. Game time is set for 5:05 PM
