Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs, the Class A affiliate of the 27-time World Champions New York Yankees, will be presented, along with the New York Yankees and all their affiliated minor league teams, with a citation from the President's Volunteer Service Award. The award will be presented prior to the New York Yankees' home game Friday night against the Chicago White Sox at Yankee Stadium.
The citation is presented to the RiverDogs "in recognition and appreciation of commitment to strengthening the Nation and for making a difference through volunteer service." The awards are bestowed by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation in conjunction with the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Along with the parent club Yankees and the RiverDogs, also being recognized are the International League's Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (AAA), the Eastern League's Trenton Yankees (AA), Florida State League's Tampa Yankees (High-A), the Staten Island Yankees (Short Season) and the Gulf Coast League's Yankees (Rookie).
"While the New York Yankees created HOPE Week and have orchestrated this for the fourth consecutive year, this is the first time that all of their affiliates have participated," said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. "This community service project fits perfectly with what we have been doing, and it has enhanced our efforts to be better neighbors."
During HOPE Week, the RiverDogs visited several different worthy organizations around the Lowcountry. Players, coaches and front office staff all spent time volunteering at these different spots, including Children's Museum of the Lowcountry, Lifepoint/SC Donate Life, Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding, Florence Crittenton Programs of SC and the American Lung Association. The organization recognized these charitable organizations as they did their part to spread HOPE throughout the Holy City and the surrounding area.
The citation will be presented by Asim Mishra, Chief of Staff of the Corporation for National and Community Service, and accepting on behalf of the RiverDogs will be Mr. and Dr, Goldklang, members of The Goldklang Group which owns the RiverDogs.
