Augusta, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats scored three times in the seventh inning to pull away to a four-run lead, eventually winning by a 6-2 score over the Augusta GreenJackets in the opener of a five-game series between the teams in front of 3,691 on Friday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

With the GreenJackets trailing by a run in the seventh, the Sand Gnats got three consecutive base hits to open the inning off DeMondre Arnold. Andrew Berger came out of the Augusta bullpen to allow an RBI single to Cam Maron and a two-run double to Dustin Lawley that stretched Savannah's lead to 6-2. Even though Berger would retire the final nine Sand Gnats hitters - seven on strikeouts - the damage was done and the GreenJackets would draw no closer.

Savannah drew first blood, scoring a pair off Kyle Crick in the second inning. An error put Brian Harrison on to start the frame while a wild pitch sent him to second. After Crick got the first two outs in the inning, Albert Cordero's RBI single gave the Sand Gnats a 1-0 lead. Crick walked the next two hitters to load the bases before walking Gilbert Gomez with the bases loaded to put the Sand Gnats up by a pair. A groundout ended Savannah's second inning.

Crick (3-5) left after just two innings as a result of his high pitch count in the inning. He allowed two runs - both unearned - on one hit and four walks while striking out one.

The GreenJackets got a run back in the third on an RBI groundout from Jose Flores with the bases loaded to cut Savannah's lead to 2-1. After a walk reloaded the bases with two outs, Ben Thomas struck out swinging to end the inning. Savannah regained their two-run advantage on an RBI groundout from Yucarybert De La Cruz in the fourth before the GreenJackets again cut the Savannah lead to one. Flores brought in a second run on an RBI groundout to make it a 3-2 game, where it stayed until the Savannah onslaught in the seventh.

In the third matchup between Crick and Savannah's Michael Fulmer, it was Fulmer that prevailed to get the win. Fulmer (5-4) fired six innings and allowed two runs - one earned - on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out six, two shy of the career-high he set in his loss last Saturday against the GreenJackets.

The GreenJackets have lost all three games in the second half where the opponent led first while winning all six where they grabbed the first lead. Augusta will look to even the series at a game apiece on Saturday night in a battle of lefties. Adalberto Mejia (5-4, 4.95) makes his first start of the second half against Alex Panteliodis (3-4, 4.04). First pitch comes at 7:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1340 AM and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.

Single-game tickets for any GreenJackets home game are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
