Asheville Builds Early Lead, Holds on for 4-3 Win over Legends

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Asheville Tourists took an early 3-0 lead and then held on to defeat the Lexington Legends 4-3 Friday night.

Asheville's Brian Humphries led off the game with a single and advanced to third on Trevor Story's double. Joey Wong's ground out to shortstop plated Humphries and moved Story to third. Jordan Ribera's single to center field scored Story, giving the Tourists a 2-0 lead.

The Tourists added another run in the second when Jose Rivera led off the inning with his first home run of the season.

In the fourth inning, the Legends loaded the bases when Zach Johnson singled, Brandon Meredith walked, and Luis Alvarez was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Justin Gominsky doubled down the left field line, scoring Johnson and Meredith to cut the Asheville lead to 3-2.

Asheville added another run in the sixth on a triple by Humphries and a single by Story.

The Legends countered with one run in the seventh. With two outs, Delino DeShields Jr. singled and then scored on Jordan Scott's double, leaving the score at 4-3.

Asheville starter Tyler Anderson (6-2) got the win after allowing two runs over six innings. Russell Brewer worked around two walks in the ninth to get his second save of the season.

Lexington starter Carlos Quevedo (4-3) picked up the loss after allowing three runs in two and a third innings.

The Legends and Tourists play game two of their five-game series Saturday night. First pitch at Whitaker Bank Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
