Suns' Streak Snapped in Loss to Lakewood

Lakewood, NJ - The Hagerstown Suns (48-30) had their four-game winning streak snapped, losing game one of their five game series with the Lakewood BlueClaws (28-48), 6-1, at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, NJ on Friday night.

The BlueClaws broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth inning with a Chris Duffy RBI single, followed by a grand slam from Maikel Franco two batters later to cement the lead.

Suns starting pitcher Alex Meyer did not factor in the decision, allowing one run (solo HR) while striking out seven batters over five innings of work. Josh Smoker (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on two hits and three walks in the eighth inning. Cutter Dykstra had the Suns lone RBI in the game and finished the night 2-for-4 with a double.

BlueClaws starter Ethan Stewart also did not factor in the decision, allowing one unearned run on five hits over six innings pitched. Reliever Blake Mascarello (1-0) earned the win in his professional debut with 1.1 scoreless innings to finish the game

The Suns and BlueClaws will play game two of the five game series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. when RHP Chris McKenzie (2-2, 7.22) makes the start for Hagerstown. Lakewood's probable starting pitcher has yet to be determined.
