
RiverDogs Hold off Power 6-5

(Charleston, SC- June 17, 2015)- The West Virginia Power lost 6-5 to the Charleston RiverDogs Wednesday night at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park in Charleston, SC. The RiverDogs led 6-1 after five innings and held off a late Power rally to even the series at one win apiece.
After West Virginia stranded three runners on base over the first three innings, Charleston opened the scoring in the bottom of the third with four runs off Colten Brewer. Dustin Fowler drove in a pair with a double and then scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead. Vince Conde doubled in Angel Aguilar to give the RiverDogs a 4-0 advantage.
The Power plated their first run in the top of the fourth. Tyler Filliben doubled off Justin Kamplain to leadoff the inning and advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw. Cole Tucker singled in Filliben to cut the RiverDogs lead to three. Charleston, however, added two more runs against Brewer in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-1 lead.
West Virginia rallied for two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth, loading the bases three times over the two innings. In the seventh with the bases full and two outs, Chase Simpson hit into a fielder's choice, but third baseman Ryan Lindemuth's throw to second sailed wide and allowed Tucker and Pablo Reyes to score and cut the Charleston lead down to 6-3.
In the eighth, the Power loaded the bases and added two runs. With two outs, Jordan Luplow singled off the first base bag and drove in Francisco Diaz and Filliben to cut the deficit down to one at 6-5. Dillon McNamara walked Jerrick Suiter to reload the bases before striking out Simpson to end the inning.
Elvis Escobar single to lead off the ninth, but was stranded at second as the game ended.
Brewer (1-4) took the loss after surrendering all six runs on nine hits over four and two thirds innings. Kamplain (2-8) relieved Charleston starter Jordan Foley in the fourth and worked three and a third himself for the win. McNamara recorded the final four outs for his fourth save.
Luplow paced the Power with two hits and two runs batted in. Conde went 3-4 for the RiverDogs and Fowler added a pair of hits. Both players drove in two runs to lead Charleston in the win. West Virginia went 3-15 with runners in scoring position and stranded 13 men on base in the loss.
The Power and RiverDogs conclude their season series on Thursday evening at 7:05 pm. All-Star Yeudy Garcia will start for the West Virginia against Charleston's David Palladino. The Power return to Appalachian Power Park on Friday night to open a three game series against the Hickory Crawdads to close the first half of the season.
