Charleston RiverDogs News Release
, GA - The Rome Braves fell to the Charleston RiverDogs 8-5 in the final of their three game series Friday night in front of 4,145 fans at State Mutual Stadium.
Charleston came out swinging in the first, taking the lead 3-0 highlighted by an RBI single by Jose Tabata and an RBI double by CJ Henry. The Braves battled back in their half of the inning as Elvis Andrus singled and later scored on a triple to deep right field from Manny Rodriguez to cut the Charleston lead 3-1. Rome inched closer with another run as Rodriguez scored on a ground out from Maximiliano Ramirez to make the score 3-2. The Braves took the lead 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth when Derrick Arnold blooped one into right and then trotted home on a two run blast (2) off the bat of Jose Camarena. The RiverDogs, however, were far from finished as they tallied four singles for three runs in the sixth to reclaim the lead 6-4. Jamie Romak smashed a solo homer to left (10) in the bottom half of the inning, but would be the last Brave to cross the plate. Charleston added two more insurance runs in the seventh on a double from Ben Jones, and the Dogs got the win 8-5.
Rome starter Jeff Lyman (4-2) gets the loss for the Braves after throwing five innings and giving up six earned runs on seven hits. Erick Abreu (3-1) gets the win for Charleston, with Cory Stuart recording his seventh save.
Rome begins a four game series with the Greenville Drive tomorrow at 7 pm. The first 1000 fans 14 and under will receive batting helmets courtesy of Branson Tractor and Q102. For ticket information call 706-378-5144 or log on to www.romebraves.com.
