Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
SAVANNAH, Ga. - Reggie Fitzpatrick homered and singled to back Craig Stammen's gem on the mound as the Savannah Sand Gnats beat the Columbus Catfish 3-1 Friday night in front of a season-high crowd of 3,512 at Historic Grayson Stadium.
Stammen allowed just one unearned run on two hits in seven innings to improve to 6-8 on the season. Gene Yost fanned two batters in the eighth to hold the win, and Josh Perrault picked up his fourth save with a scoreless ninth.
Fitzpatrick belted his second homer of the season in the sixth on a solo shot to right at the expense of Columbus starter Dave Horlacher. The long ball gives Fitzpatrick nine RBI on the year.
The Gnats first got on the board in the fourth when Fitzpatrick singled and moved into scoring position with his fourth steal of the season. Fitzpatrick came in with two down in the inning on an RBI single by Alex Nunez, and a throwing error allowed Nunez to move all the way to third on the play. Nunez touched home one batter later when Tim Pahuta ripped a long single down the right-field line to give the Gnats an early lead.
Columbus got one back in the sixth on an unearned run, without the aid of a base hit, when Lucas May reached on a leadoff walk and scored on a sacrifice fly.
The Sand Gnats are next in action Saturday as they hit the road to take on the Kannapolis Intimidators in a four-game set before heading to Greenville to battle the Drive in four games. The Gnats return to Historic Grayson Stadium on Monday, June 24, to begin an eight-game homestand, starting with four against the Lexington Legends.
