Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - Minor League Baseball has announced that the Charleston RiverDogs again rank among the Top-25 in merchandise sales for 2010.
It marks the sixth consecutive year that the RiverDogs rate among the nation's best.
Aided by a variety of items that feature loveable mascot Charlie T. RiverDog - one of the most popular logos in all of Minor League Baseball - RiverDogs commodities are a hot seller year-round.
While casual clothing (such as t-shirts and a wide variety of baseball caps) represent most of the objects sold in the RiverDogs' Souvenir Shop that is located on the concourse of Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park, other big selling items include souvenir baseballs, mini-bats, team sets and plush mascot dolls, among others.
"We've known for a very long time that our logo is a winner and that fans enjoy what we have in our Souvenir Store," said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. "Because of that, we've put great emphasis on the variety of merchandise available where there will be something for everyone. It reinforces our 'Be Your Own Fan' initiative where fans enjoy whatever aspect of the RiverDogs experience they care to, and merchandising is a major part of that experience."
Overall, Minor League Baseball experienced a 12 percent increase in the sales of licensed merchandise last year over 2009. The program, established in 1991, consists of the 160 clubs in the domestic-based leagues.
"Minor League Baseball is proud of the popularity that our clubs' names, logos and merchandise have with our industry's fans," said MiLB Director of Licensing Sandie Hebert. "Our clubs and licensees work very hard in providing and creating merchandise that Minor League Baseball fans of all ages can enjoy."
The Souvenir Shop has been coordinated by Michael DeAntonio for the past four seasons. He is a native Charlestonian and a 2006 graduate of the University of South Carolina's Sports Management Program.
The RiverDogs are joined by the Lakewood BlueClaws as the only South Atlantic League members to make the list.
