Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

SALISBURY, MD - It was an old-fashioned pitcher's duel Wednesday night as the Lakewood BlueClaws snapped their 5 game losing streak by beating the Delmarva Shorebirds 2-0. Lakewood scored 2 runs in the 1st inning, and never looked back. Jesse Biddle got the start for Lakewood and pitched his best game of the year while picking up the win. The two teams combined for just 10 hits, and it only took 2 hours and 1 minute to complete the 9 inning game.

The story of the game was most definitely the outstanding pitching. BlueClaws SP Jesse Biddle threw 6 innings of shutout baseball. He allowed just 5 hits and walked 4 batters while striking out 8 in picking up his 2nd win as a BlueClaw to move to 2-5 on the year. When Biddle departed after the 6th inning, LHP Jay Johnson came in and threw 2 shutout innings and struck out 4. After Johnson, RHP Tyler Knigge entered and pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the 9th inning striking out the last 2 batters of the game to collect his 2nd career save. RHP Scott Copeland got the tough luck loss for Delmarva going 8 innings, allowing just 6 hits, walked nobody, struck out 5 while allowing just the 2 runs to score in the 1st inning.

Offensively it was a quiet night at the plate for both teams. Edgar Duran extended his hitting streak to 7 games for Lakewood with a 1-3 performance, and Carlos Perdomo was 2-4 in the game. Zach Collier was 0-4 as his 9 game hitting streak came to an end. The biggest play of the game happened in the 1st inning. Lakewood 3B Geancarlo Mendez doubled with 2 out, then 1B Jim Murphy was hit by a pitch to bring up CF Michael Dabbs. Dabbs then doubled to score both Mendez and Murphy for the only 2 runs either team scored all night.

Thursday it will be day game baseball for the rubber game of the 3 game series. 10:35 am is the scheduled first pitch time as Lakewood will send out RHP Garett Claypool (0-2, 2.91 ERA) looking for his first win of the year, and Delmarva will counter with LHP Tim Berry (1-1, 4.85 ERA).
