Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - A night after the Augusta GreenJackets had one of their better hit outputs of the season, their bats didn't come through in clutch spots in a 3-0 loss to the Greenville Drive on Wednesday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
The GreenJackets put together seven hits after getting 17 on Tuesday, but three of those seven came with two outs in the respective inning. The GreenJackets left seven men on the bases one night after stranding 11 in a win during the series opener, but Greenville starter Scott Swinson stranded five of those seven in his five innings. Swinson (1-0), getting a spot start due to suspensions being served by the Drive, held the GreenJackets scoreless on four hits and a walk while striking out two.
Greenville got a pair in the third off Augusta's Mike Kickham, making his home debut. With one out and a man at first, back-to-back singles gave the Drive a one-run edge with the RBI hit coming from Heiker Meneses. A double steal put men at second and third and a Kickham wild pitch allowed Felix Sanchez to score the second run in the inning and put Greenville up a deuce.
Kickham (0-1) allowed only two hits and a walk in his five innings, but the pair of runs in the third cost him and the GreenJackets the chance at a win because of the poor run support. Kickham stuck out five for the second time in as many starts.
The Drive added a run off Brett Bochy in the sixth on a two-out Brandon Jacobs RBI double to take a 3-0 lead. Augusta hit into double plays to kill threats in the seventh and eighth while Michael Gleason retired the side in order in the ninth. Gleason struck out two in the Drive debut to earn his first save of the season.
The GreenJackets failed for the fifth time this season to win their third straight game. The loss is also the fourth time this year Augusta has been shutout, with two of those losses coming at the hands of the Drive.
Seth Rosin (1-2, 3.62) gets the ball following one of his best starts of the season for Augusta and will try to pitch the GreenJackets to the series win in the three-game set. Greenville sends Manny Rivera (4-1, 3.32) to oppose as the GreenJackets close in on their one-millionth fan under Ripken Baseball ownership. That lucky fan will win a trip for four to Disneyworld, courtesy of Augusta Vascular Center. First pitch will come at 7:05 with the pregame action beginning at 6:50, airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
Single-game and Season Tickets are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
