RiverDogs Add Pirela and Lose Angelini

CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees announced Tuesday that infielder Jose Pirela has been promoted to the RiverDogs from Extended Spring Training, while Charleston infielder Carmen Angelini has been transferred to Extended Spring Training.

Angelini struggled during the 33 games played this season with the RiverDogs, batting .197 (26x132) with one home run and eight RBI. Angelini played in 134 games with the 2008 RiverDogs team along with being selected by the Yankees in the 10th round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft.

During the 2008 season, Pirela appeared in 35 games with the GCL Yankees, hitting .235 (33x141) with 10 RBI. The 19 year-old Venezuelan was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2006.

The RiverDogs launch an eight-game homestand Wednesday, May 20 first against the Lexington Legends, an affiliate of the Houston Astros, and then the Bowling Green Hot Rods, an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, in a pair of four-game sets.
