Hagerstown Suns News Release

With an award-winning catcher and six wins in their last nine games, the Hagerstown Suns are playing their best baseball of the season just in time for 2009's biggest weekend to date at Municipal Stadium.

The Suns will blow out Memorial Day with a four-game series against the Hickory Crawdads that kicks off an eight-game homestand. The weekend series against Hickory will include two fireworks shows as well as a special 2:05 p.m. start on Memorial Day Monday.

The Suns carry a record of 18-18 into Thursday night's game at Kannapolis. They will look to surge above .500 as they take on the Crawdads -- an affiliate of the Texas Rangers -- in Hickory's only trip to Hagerstown of the season. Leading the Suns' offensive charge will be catcher Derek Norris, who hit his South Atlantic League-best eighth home run Wednesday, and was recently named the SAL Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending May 17.

Memorial Day weekend at Municipal Stadium will be a celebration of the arrival of summer, and the Suns will partner with Budweiser to welcome in the new season by offering cans of Bud Light Lime for just $1.50 for the entire homestand. Also, while supplies last, any fan who buys a Miller brand bottled product will receive a free t-shirt, courtesy of Miller.

"There's no better way to welcome in the summer than with a refreshing beverage," Suns Director of Food and Beverage Nick Bilski said. "We are glad to be partnering with Bud Light and Miller to make our fans' experience at the ballpark especially enjoyable over this upcoming homestand."

A loaded promotional slate will also contribute to the atmosphere at Municipal Stadium this weekend, starting with Friday Night Fireworks on May 22, presented by Coca-Cola. The first fireworks display of 2009 will immediately follow the conclusion of the 6:35 game, which will also be Washington County Community Day at the ballpark. Businesses serving Washington County will be in attendance, sharing more information about the services they offer with fans.

Saturday's game will be the first ever Hagerstown Suns Hall of Fame Day, and inaugural Suns Hall-of-Famer Grady Little will be honored with a bronze statuette that will go out to the first 1,000 fans who enter the ballpark, courtesy of the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center.

There is still time to purchase All You Can Eat tickets to Saturday's game as part of the Suns' Hall of Fame season ticket package. For just $39, fans can receive tickets to the five most-popular Suns' games of the season, including this Saturday's contest, with an all-you-can-eat meal included in the price of the ticket. The package also includes a limited-edition Suns hat and t-shirt.

Saturday will also be the second Chick-fil-A Friends and Family Night of the 2009 season. For just $24.99, fans who sign up by noon on Friday will receive four tickets to Saturday's game, plus four Suns caps and four meals at Chick-fil-A. A limited number of the All-You-Can-Eat Hall of Fame packages and the Chick-fil-A Friends and Family plans are still available, and can be purchased by calling the Suns at 301-791-6266.

The May 23 game will also be a Geico Patriotic Saturday, with the Suns wearing their alternate red, white, and blue jerseys. In addition, fans can email info@hagerstownsuns.com prior to the game to sign up for their chance to come on the radio airwaves live as part of the Suns' Saturday Night Fan Broadcast.

Sunday's game will have another 6:35 start, and will be followed by a special Sunday Night Fireworks show, presented by the Herald-Mail.

Plenty of regularly-scheduled Sunday promotions will also be in place, starting with some exciting pre-game festivities. A Suns player will be reading to kids ages 1-7 on the field prior to the game as part of Suns Story Time, presented by the Washington County Arts Council. Also before the game, select Suns players will be available inside the gates to sign their team photos for fans, free of charge, as part of the Suns on Sundays promotion, presented by Pictures Plus.

After the game -- and after the fireworks -- kids in attendance will have a chance to head down to the field for Kids Run the Bases, presented by The Greene Turtle. Due to the evening start time, there will not be a Pizza Hut Post-Game Show following the game.

The series with Hickory will wrap up with Memorial Day Monday, starting at 2:05 p.m. Because of the special holiday start time, there will be no Feed Your Face promotion, and normal ticket-pricing will be in effect.

The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Ticket packages and sponsorships are available by calling the Suns at 301-791-6266. Visit the Suns on the web at www.hagerstownsuns.com. The Suns are owned by Los Angeles based Mandalay Baseball Properties.
