Lexington Legends News Release
Outfielder Steve Brown homered in his first at bat in more than a month as Lexington built an early 3-0 lead, but the Charleston RiverDogs came back with a five-run rally in the third inning and went on to beat the Legends 8-7.
Ebert Rosario gave Lexington a 1-0 lead with his fourth home run of the year in the top of the first. Brown, just off the disabled list, homered to right field with Brandon Barnes aboard in the second.
Charleston's Melky Mesa hit his South Atlantic League-leading ninth home run of the year in the second inning to make the score 3-1.
Lexington left-hander Brad Dydalewicz, also coming back after a month on the disabled list with a strained oblique muscle, pitched the first two innings. The homer by Mesa was the first earned run given up by Dydalewicz in 19 innings this season.
The RiverDogs scored five more in the third inning. With Arcenio Leon pitching in relief of Dydalewicz, a single by David Adams, a walk to Dan Brewer, an infield out and a walk to Mesa loaded the bases. Jose Pirela's single brought home two runs, and a single by Mike Lyon scored another to give Charleston a 4-3 lead. Michael Hacker relieved Leon, and Chase Weems' bunt single scored Pirela. A throwing error by first baseman Phil Disher allowed Lyon to reach third, from where he scored on an infield out to make it 6-3 Charleston.
The Legends responded with two in the fifth on a single by Barnes, a triple by Ronnie Ramirez and another single by Jay Austin. That left Charleston with a 6-5 lead, and each team added single runs in the sixth and seventh.
Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte, who leads the South Atlantic League in saves with 11, pitched a scoreless ninth to protect the 8-7 Charleston lead. Venditte pitched left-handed to one batter and right-handed to three others. Rosario singled against Venditte, but was left stranded at first.
Brandon Braboy (2-1), a Ballard County native and a graduate of Heath High School, got the win for Charleston. Jose Trinidad, (0-3) pitching in relief for Lexington, took the loss.
