Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Intimidators won back-to-back games for the first time since late April, claiming a 9-4 win over Hagerstown on Wednesday afternoon at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.

Kannapolis broke out with 14 hits, matching a season high, including three each from Jon Gilmore and Jose Vargas. Gilmore's three-hit afternoon was his third three-hit outing in the last four games. Vargas finished 3-for-5 with an inside-the-park home run.

The Intimidators (20-19) never trailed after taking an early lead off of Suns starter Paul Demny (1-2). Demny gave up five runs, four earned, in three innings. He repeatedly hurt his own cause, making three errors before being pulled in the fourth.

Meanwhile, Charlie Leesman was persevering despite not having his sharpest outing. Leesman (4-2) fresh off of a 7 2/3 inning performance against Lakewood last week, went 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday. The southpaw walked a season-high five hitters, but gave up just one run.

The Intimidators broke through with three runs in the fourth, all charged to the Suns (18-18) starter Demny. Tyler Kuhn had the big hit in the frame, driving in a pair on a base hit.

Derek Norris hit his league-leading eighth home run, a three-run shot in the seventh off of Garrett Johnson, to cut the Kannapolis lead to 6-4, but Kannapolis scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to put the game out of reach.
