
River Riders Drop Series Opener in Elizabethton

ELIZABETHTON, TN - The Elizabethton River Riders lost, 6-5, against the Johnson City Doughboys at Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark on Saturday night. First baseman Robin Fernandez finished 3-for-3 with three RBI.
The Doughboys jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a two-run triple by catcher Cade Sumbler.
The River Riders scored one run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by designated hitter Sam Thompson.
The River Riders tied the game in the bottom of the third with the first RBI single by Fernandez.
The Doughboys scored two runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by right fielder Cherokee Nichols.
E-Town scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth on the second RBI single by Fernandez before he scored on a wild pitch.
Johnson City took the lead in the top of the sixth on a balk by RHP Jack Wolgast, to make it 5-4 Doughboys.
JC added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a fly-out by second baseman Chyran Cruse.
