Burlington Sock Puppets News Release

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- The Sock Puppets defeated the Axmen in dramatic fashion, 12-5 on Saturday, despite only having seven hits. Gabe Emmett got the start for the Puppets and went four full innings, giving up one earned run, and striking out seven. A Mason Speaker fielder's choice and a Cole Reynolds rocket double to right center field put the Puppets up 2-0.

In the second, a ground out and a wild pitch by Kingsport starter Jack Crowder scored two more runs, but the Puppets weren't done in the inning yet. A Brenden Bell triple, an error, and a walk would plate three more runs for the Hand Socks, who would score five runs in the inning, and bring the score to 7-0.

Kingsport would break through, scoring their first run of the game in the fourth inning on a ground out to shortstop Andrew Lujan. Burlington would add to the lead in the fifth inning, when Isaiah Adams initiated launch mode in the fifth inning off of Kingsport reliever Matt Taylor to make the score 8-2.

Hunter Fitz-Gerald added to the Kingsport tally with a home run in the sixth inning to make the score 6-3. In the bottom of the sixth, Burlington would add to their already impressive tally with three more runs in the sixth inning on a single and a wild pitch to make the score 11-2, but they weren't done yet.

A wild pitch and a dropped third strike against Puppet reliever Connor Butler would plate two runs for the Axmen, pulling the tally to 11-4.

Parker Redden would later ground into a fielder's choice, pushing across another run for the Puppets in the eighth inning, bringing the score to 11-4. Nick Gotilla would come in to pitch the ninth, allowing one run and bringing the tally to 11-5 before shutting the door on the Axmen for good.

Game two of the series will commence at 6PM from Burlington Athletic Stadium on Sunday July, 11th.
