November 13, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany River Rats News Release
Albany N.Y. â The Albany River Rats announced today that the game on Saturday, November 22, 2003 will be Armed Services Night. Fans attending the 7:00pm contest against the Binghamton Senators are being asked to donate items that will be sent overseas to troops still fighting terrorism in Iraq.
"Our organization took notice of the dedication Mr. Forant has exhibited in gathering support," said River Rats President/CEO S. Garen Szablewski. "It is especially important at this time of year to remember those we have lost and those that are still fighting for our freedom around the world."
The team is requesting, in association with the Forant Family, that fans bring the following types of items to the game: toiletries, sunscreen, personal hygiene cleansers, mouthwash, socks, batteries, new and used magazines, books and compact discs. Donations can also be made in the form of non-perishable food items, beverages, powdered drink mixes, boxes, envelopes, stamps and bubble wrap. A more complete list of items and how to make donations is available at www.SupportOurTroopsInIraq.com.
"We never expected our website to generate this level of support," added Daniel Forant Jr. "Our family would like to thank the Albany River Rats for helping to spread the word and we are just trying to brighten the day of the many soldiers that are being forced to spend time away from their families."
All fans attending Saturday night's game will also receive a FREE team picture and can stay after the game for autograph session on the ice with all the River Rat players.
The Albany River Rats return to action this weekend with a pair of games against the Binghamton Senators.
