Albany River Rats News Release
ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that they have formed a three-year partnership with Capital Youth Hockey Association to become the Jr. River Rats.
As part of the agreement that will begin in the 2008-09 season and run through the 2010-11 season, CYHA will have the exclusive rights to use the "Jr. River Rats" designation and logo, which will be mutually designed by the River Rats and CYHA.
The River Rats will be directly involved with managing both the merchandise and equipment for the Jr. River Rats. The River Rats will be the sole vendor of official "Jr. River Rats" branded merchandise and they will also provide a discount hockey equipment program for all CYHA participants. In addition all Jr. River Rats players will be given discounts on tickets purchased at the Times Union Center.
"We are very excited about this new partnership with Capital Youth Hockey Association and look forward to being a part of the development of these fine young players," said River Rats President & CEO S. Garen Szablewski.
This partnership will also include tournament support where CYHA home tournaments may be held at the Times Union Center whenever possible, hockey clinics for the Jr. River Rats held by their professional counterparts and also the potential for fundraising assistance at River Rats home games.
The partnership will be officially launched during the March 15th River Rats home game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Times Union Center. The newly designed CYHA Jr. River Rats jerseys will be unveiled during the first intermission of that game.
Capital Youth Hockey has approximately 400 children from three to 18 years old who participate in the program each year. The philosophy of the program focuses on overall player development, competitive practices and quality games. CYHA provides an atmosphere in which a child's love for the sport can grow. Every effort is made to ensure that the experience is fun and enjoyable for the entire family and provides the proper development for each child to enhance his or her skills.
The River Rats return to action on Friday, February 29th as they travel to Massachusetts for a 7:30 pm face off with the Springfield Falcons at the MassMutual Center. Albany has two home games this weekend, against the Worcester Sharks on Saturday at 7:00 pm and against the Philadelphia Phantoms on Sunday at 5:00 pm at the Times Union Center.
Partial season tickets packages and flex tickets for the 2007-08 River Rats season are on sale now. For more information please contact the Albany River Rats at (518) 487-2244 or online at www.albanyriverrats.com.
