River Otters Defeat Mallards 3-2; Tapp Makes 35 Saves

Led by Jason Tapp's 35-save performance, the Missouri River Otters defeated the Quad City Mallards 3-2 Saturday night at the MARK.

The first goal of the game came on a River Otters first-period power-play. Mat Snesrud fired a shot at the net from the point, and Mark Odut deflected it behind Mallards goalie Jeff Reynaert for his 19th goal of the season.

The River Otters extended their lead to two goals early in the second period. Again on the power-play, Glenn Detulleo took a great feed from Jim Montgomery and ripped a low wrister between Reynaert's pads. Quad City got one back midway through the period when Mike Kompon rifled a backhand shot top-shelf to put his squad on the board. Missouri killed off a two-minute five-on-three during the second period.

The River Otters killed off a five minute major in the third period, and then got a power-play goal of their own fifteen minutes into the period. Montgomery played a perfect pass to Frank Littlejohn in front of the net, and Littlejohn buried the puck for his 24th tally of the season. The Mallards wouldn't go away easily, and Alexandre Mathieu scored with three minutes remaining to bring his team within one goal. That was it for the Mallards, however, as Tapp made an incredible last-minute save on Kompon, and the River Otters won 3-2. Tapp made 35 saves in the victory, while Reynaert made 15 saves in defeat.

The River Otters will take on the Kansas City Outlaws Monday afternoon at the Kemper Arena. The puck drops at 3:00 CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 FM and the B2 Webcast at www.riverotters.com.
