
Generals earn tough shootout victory over Richmond

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League get some offensive firepower and earn a tough two points in a 6-5 shootout victory over the Richmond Riverdogs in front of 3,548 at Perani's Arena on Friday night.
The flood gates opened in the first period as the teams combined for six goals. Richmond jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on power play goals by Ryan Prentice (20) at 5:24 and David Brosseau (25) at 8:35. Flint closed the gap to 2-1 as right wing Rob Valicevic (26) connected with his first of two goals on the power play at 9:53.
Flint fell behind 3-1 when Richmond's David Hymovitz (26) scored on the power play at 12:38. The Generals made their charge to tie the contest with two goals in 1:55 seconds as Jason Selleke (5) at 15:05 and Andrei Lupandin (5) at 16:58 brought the Generals to a 3-3 deadlock ending the first period.
In the second period, Richmond reclaimed the lead on a goal by left wing J.J.Wrobel (10) at 16:58 but the Generals rebounded to tie it as Valicevic (27) scored his second of the game at 19:27 for a 4-4 tie heading into the third period.
Flint took their first lead of the game in the third period when Player/Assistant Coach Bobby Reynolds took a great pass from Mike Kinnie and beat Riverdogs' goaltender Brent Belecki for the 5-4 lead at 4:17. That would stand up until Richmond tied it when Francis Belanger (23) scored from a goal-mouth scramble at 18:145 tie heading into the shootout.
The Generals outscored Richmond 3-2 in the shootout as Valicevic nailed the game deciding goal in the sixth round. Goaltender Dan McIntyre (11-11-6) stopped 27 of 32 shots for the victory. The Generals were 1 for 7 on the power play and Richmond was 5 for 7 with the man advantage.
Flint (24-21-10, 58 pts.) moves into a tie with the Riverdogs (27-24-4, 58 pts.) for the overall standings. The Generals are still in third place in the Central Division of the Untied Hockey League.
