Missouri River Otters News Release

The Missouri River Otters scored four first-period goals en route to a 5-4 shootout victory Friday night against Kalamazoo at Wings Stadium.

It took 16 seconds for the River Otters to register their first goal of the game. Jim Montgomery skated the puck behind the net and fed Ryan Johnson in the slot, and Johnson buried a one-timer behind Chad Alban. Six minutes later Montgomery scored a goal of his own, jamming home the rebound of a Johnson shot on the power play. The K-Wings got one back when Andrew Luciuk beat Jason Tapp with a wrist-shot, but 12 seconds later the River Otters responded. Mat Snesrud got the puck on the boards, and hit Montgomery with a perfect pass to the side of the net. Montgomery slid it home for his 16th goal of the season. Then, with less than a minute remaining in the period, Lars Pettersen scored on the rebound of a Barret Jackman shot to give the River Otters a 4-1 lead. Montgomery, Johnson, and Jackman combined for three goals, six assists, and a +7 rating in the first period.

Kalamazoo scored the only two goals in the second period, and they both came on the power play. Matt Noga scored the first one, while Luciuk picked up his second tally of the night less than three minutes later. The lone goal in the final period came off the stick of Daniel Carriere for the K-Wings, tying the game with three minutes left.

Pettersen, Barrie Moore, and Montgomery all scored for the River Otters in the shootout, while Tapp stopped three of four shots. Overall Tapp made 23 saves in the victory, while Alban made 30 saves in defeat.

The Otters will take on the Mallards Saturday night at the MARK of the Quad Cities. The puck drops at 7:00 CST, and the game can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 and the River Otters B2 Webcast, which can be found at www.riverotters.com!
