IceHogs Ice Outlaws

February 19, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kansas City Outlaws News Release

The Rockford IceHogs came to town fighting for first in the UHL's Western Division, and the Kansas City Outlaws are fighting for their slim playoff hopes, so tonight's game promised to be a good one. Fans weren't disappointed by the quality of hockey, although the final score definitely left something to be desired. The Hogs, who remain in town for tomorrow's 1:00 pm rematch, skated away with the 3-2 win tonight.

Rockford jumped on the board first. With George Davis in the penalty box for roughing, Terry Harrison's power play goal at 4:08 gave the Hogs the initial 1-0 lead. Harrison was assisted by Rockford superstar Olivier Proulx and Chris Gobert.

Kansas City roared back with a pair of goals late in the opening frame. Mike Murray's fifth goal of the season tied the game at 1 each with 5:26 remaining. Davis picked up the assist. Scott Kirton's tally at 17:53 (Jimmy Callahan, Briane Thompson) put the Outlaws in front, 2-1.

At 5:48 of the second period, Jean-Francois Dufour scored for Rockford, tying the game at 2-2 (Vince Malts, Chris Gobert). The goal was Dufour's 19th of the year, for an IceHog-leading 61 points.

Dufour also had his hand in the Hogs' game winning goal. Dufour assisted on a third period tally by Steve Pelletier, which gave Rockford the 3-2 lead. That goal came at 5:36 of the final period, and was also assisted by Alex Kim.

The Outlaws certainly had their chances in the third period. Two Kansas City goals were disallowed. Once, because the net had come off its moorings, and a second time because a penalty whistle had been blown an instante before the goal.

With the win, Rockford remains tied for first in the UHL with 76 points, and holds sole possession of first place in the Western Division.

The Outlaws and IceHogs meet again tomorrow at Kemper Arena. It's Back Yard Burgers Best Family Deal Ever Day, and the puck drops at 1:00 pm sharp. The Outlaws will finish their current home stand with a 3:00 pm game Monday. In honor of Presidents Day, the first 2,500 fans receive Abraham Lincoln bobbleheads.
