Sacramento River Cats News Release
West Sacramento, Calif. - With two out and two strikes in the bottom of the 12th and the game tied at one, catcher Anthony Recker hit a walk-off solo home run over the left field wall, giving the River Cats a 2-1 win and a series-sweep of the Fresno Grizzlies on Friday night at Raley Field.
The pitchers' duel began quietly, with Fresno scoring once in the second on a Jackson Williams single to shallow center field, scoring Todd Linden. Neither team would score for the next four innings until Sacramento broke the silence with a Stephen Parker RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh. Two more scoreless innings from both clubs sent the game to extra innings.
Neither team mustered any offense in extras until the 12th inning. Fresno loaded the bases with no outs, but Danny Farquhar got out of the jam by inducing a foul-out, a fielder's choice and a strikeout, giving his team the chance to win it in the bottom of the inning. After the first two batters were retired, Recker came to the plate and sent the fans home happy with a walk-off, solo shot.
The win gives the River Cats their first series-sweep of the season and puts them 1.5 games ahead of the Grizzlies for first place in the PCL South Division.
River Cats starter Bruce Billings exited after six innings during which he gave up five hits, one walk and one earned run with six strikeouts for a no-decision. The River Cats bullpen held the Grizzlies scoreless for six innings with Farquhar picking up his first win in 2012 as a River Cat.
Yusmeiro Petit, who got the start for the Grizzlies, gave up one run with nine strikeouts and four hits in seven innings in a no-decision. Dan Otero suffered the loss, giving up the solo home run after 2.2 innings of work.
The River Cats hit the road for a four-game set in Las Vegas before returning home on Wednesday, June 27 for Bark in the Ballpark at Raley Field at 7:05. Tomorrow's game begins at 7:05 p.m. and will feature River Cats RHP Brad Peacock (6-3, 5.67 ERA) who will face a Las Vegas 51s starter who is to be announced.
