Matt Dominguez hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, rallying the New Orleans Zephyrs past the Memphis Redbirds 4-2 on Saturday night at Zephyr Field.
The Z's trailed 2-1 in the seventh when Memphis reliever Barrett Browning went through a bout of wildness. Browning hit leadoff batter Nick Green with a pitch, but picked Green off first base to record the first out. Browning then walked Luke Montz and Chris Aguila, and Dominguez hit an 0-2 pitch over the fence in left field to give New Orleans the lead.
For the seventh consecutive game, the Zephyrs got on the scoreboard first, courtesy of a solo home run by Montz, his team-leading 12th of the year.
Memphis quickly tied the game, taking advantage of an error by Green. Zephyrs starter Elih Villanueva issued a one-out walk to Adron Chambers, and Ryan Jackson's grounder into the hole at shortstop glanced off Green's glove and into left field. Matt Adams lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Chambers with the game-tying run.
The Redbirds grabbed the lead in the top of the seventh, cashing in a leadoff single by Nick Derba, who came around to score on a ground out by Jackson.
After Dominguez's three-run blast in the bottom of the inning, the Z's turned the game over to Chris Hatcher, who struck out five batters in the final two innings to record his fourth save.
Memphis outhit New Orleans 11-4 on the night, but went 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10 baserunners .
Evan Reed, making his Zephyrs debut, picked up the win by recording two outs. Browning (2-3) was charged with three runs in one inning of relief and took the loss.
Villanueva scattered six hits in 4 2/3 innings, and allowed an unearned run, while Memphis starter Scott Gorgen limited New Orleans to one run and three hits in six innings of his Triple-A debut.
The second game of the series is Sunday at 2 p.m. Right-hander Alex Sanabia takes the mound for New Orleans, against Memphis righty Brandon Dickson.
